Posted in WAHM/D of the Day tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 11:01 pm by tntwmom

If you’ve stubled upon my blog and/or have been reading about the WAHM/D of the Day, YOU can be the next WAHM of the Day! How??

Well, I have two sets of questions, one set is for business owners who have started their own business. The other set of questions is for those who are consultants or distributors for direct sales businesses.

If YOU would like to be the next WAHM of the Day, select the questions that apply to you, copy them and paste them into an email and send them to hillbillymoma77 AT yahoo DOT com (Please put the email address in proper format).

*I am not accepting anyone who represents an adult business, graphics business or web hosting business as these are the businesses I do.*

I will only accept one person from each business, and I will take WAHM/D’s in the order they are emailed to me. So… hurry up! Be the first one from your company to email me! 🙂

Saturday’s WAHM of the Day

Posted in WAHM/D of the Day tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 7:51 am by tntwmom

Hi, what’s your name?

My name Is Serena Gibson

What type of business do you own?
I own a Candle and Bath&Body Product business it is called Sakin’s Natural Glow

SNG-Banner
What city & state is this business located in?
My business is located and ran in Philadelphia Pennsylvania

What type of products do you make/sell?
I design specialty candles, that look like desserts, drinks, items and more!

What is your top 3 best selling items?
My top best selling items are my Popsicle melt tarts, my cupcake melt tarts, and my two toned slanted designed candles.

SNG-Popsicles
SNG-Cupcakes
SNG-Glass
What makes your business and/or your products different than your competitors?
My candles are enjoyed by customers around the corner, across the states and over the waters, meaning in different countries such as Malaysia, Netherlands,Egypt and Saudi Arabia, I also use all natural ingredients when designing my candles and bath&body products, I get my inspiration of what kind of candle I design from the type of person I meet or by how I see life and it’s beautiful colors.

What inspired you to start your own business?
I was a candle distributor for Mia Bella candles in 2005, and I was inspired about how they candles smelt and was made with natural wax, but I wanted to to add my own style and creativity designing my own candles, and having my own candle product line.

How do you manage your schedule around your children?
I fix breakfast for my hubby and 2 yr old son, see my hubby off to work, I home school my son for about a hour in the morning, then I began my day with son as my little helper, and yes he does help me in his own little way by handing me certain supplies I need to design my candles (smiles), I pretty much work through out the day staring at 12pmest until 7pm est, I fix dinner then put my son down for bed at 8pmest, and what ever is not finished I try to catch up on,before my hubby gets in from work, my hubby keeps late hours sometimes, but I keep family and business separate.

How long have you been in business?
I have been in business since 2005, but I received my license in business in February 2008

Are there any new products coming soon that we can get a sneak peek of?
Yes I will be designing leather scented, high heel shoe candle melt tarts in a wide range of colors, I do not have any pictures of them at this time, because I did not design them yet, but be sure to check my website in this coming week.

What is your website link?
My website link is www.sakinsglow.webs.com

Anything special you would like to tell my readers about yourself or your business that I didn’t ask you? Yes, I would like to say just a few words of inspiration. If you are a stay at home mom, and looking to start your own business, make your thought your reality. Go ahead and at least try it out, you never know what the outcome may be, and you will never know if you don’t try it. Also, always surround yourself with positive, supportive people.
Serena, thank you for taking the time to do this interview!

New Category!

Posted in Local People & Places tagged , , , , , , , , at 9:02 am by tntwmom

I decided I would make a “Local People & Places” category. I will post anything I feel would be good information for anyone new to our area or visiting town. I will also post random interesting facts or web site links that I feel make the cut.

I will post things in and around Sweetwater, TN and our surrounding counties including Knoxville, TN.

I already have a few ideas of things to post, but will also be scouring the net for other interesting places!

Networking

Posted in My WAH businesses tagged , , , , , , , , , at 2:53 pm by tntwmom

So, I’m all about trying to network with other work at home mom’s and get my web sites seen by as many people as possible.

It’s not always easy to network and get traffic to your site(s).

I have a couple of my sites on  Link Referral. I do notice traffic coming in from this site! You just have to log in and visit other people’s sites to keep your site at the top where people will see it. If you don’t log in and browse sites, then yours will fall to the bottom of the list and not be seen as much.

I also do banner exchanges when possible with other work at home mom’s. As far as I know, it’s good to have your link on as many web sites as possible.

I just joined Vine Fire, I’m not sure how well it works yet though. You get money for signing up, then money for referring people, and money for visiting other’s sites. I just joined, and don’t know that they actually pay out though.

I have also joined a local mommies forum to meet local moms. I went and hung out at a mommies night in Thursday night. They were treating us to a makeover! It was AWESOME to hang out with other mommies my age and the makeover was a cool experience too!

Just from posting on the forum, I had ladies interested in Tupperware. I’ve booked one party and we’re discussing them doing a Fundraiser at that party. So I definitely recommend joining local forums and Yahoo groups to get to know others near you to meet new people and help promote your business.

Also, some ladies online like to ask for fillers. Fillers are your business cards, samples, sales fliers, etc. When they mail out packages, they make a little pack of fillers up and stick in the outgoing boxes of their products. Then when their customers receieve that package, there is a pack of fillers to look through. They may possibly order from you, or join your business (if they like what you sell and/or like your filler or sample).

Some ladies that take fillers hand them out at events they go to. So, your fillers can be picked up or shipped to a lot of places. You have to pay to ship the fillers out to these people, but hey, what’s a couple of dollars for potential sales??

I am also on several Ning networks. There are a LOT of these networks out there. You can go to the main site www.Ning.com and do a search for certain key words and find some to join.I’ve gotten sales from posting to a Ning network before.

Also, some of us have “Blast Lists” on Yahoo Instant Messenger. It’s where we add one another to our friend’s list, then blast our advertisements out. When people get these, they pass them on to their blast list. I’ve also gotten sales this way!

It’s all about HOW you network and promote your business. I’ve shared some ways I do it, if you’d like to share how you do it, please comment!
