Tuesday’s WAHM of the Day

Posted in WAHM/D of the Day tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:20 am by tntwmom

Hi, what’s your name? Amy Nelson

What is the name of business you are a consultant/distributor for?  Mineralicious! Makeup

What type of products do you sell?  Wonderful, affordable, mineral makeup, skincare, and body products.

What is your favorite 3 products from this company? Sheer Glow Foundation (our lightest coverage formula, good for less mature skin and teens, has the ‘glow’ without the bismuth oxychloride that is found in a lot of traditional mineral makeup formulas, is very lightweight), Pink Grapefruit Facial Scrub (this awesome scrub has the texture of a very thick cream, however when you add water, it lathers slightly to gently cleanse your face), and the Veil (Veil is a finishing powder for your minerals 🙂 Veil helps to give that airbrushed finish look…and you can also use it by itself on days when you don’t want to go the “full monty” but still want to polish things up a bit).

What makes this company and/or its products different than its competitors?  A lot of companies offer mineral makeup, but this one specializes in it.  It is a woman-owned business, and the owner still makes everything to order herself.  Also, these products are much less expensive than other brands of mineral makeup.

What inspired you to join this company? I tried some samples, and absolutely loved them, I knew I’d be crazy not to join.  Now I am enjoying sharing the products with friends so they can see how truly wonderful they are.

How do you manage your schedule around your children? I have a wonderful husband!  (I also work outside of the home and rep another direct sales company besides this one.)

How long has this company been in business?  It celebrated it’s one year birthday in August.

Are you trying to expand your team?  Absolutely!

How much does it cost to join this company?  There are two kits – the basic kit is $15, the Business Builder kit is $30.

How much commission does a new recruit make on sales?  25%

What is the personal discount for a new recruit?  25%

Do you have to pay for your company web site? If so, how much, how often?  No, it is free.

Are you offering any sales through this company for our readers?  Use code FB5FS for Free First Class Shipping through September 30!

What is your web site link?   www.amyenelson.mineralicious.com

Anything special you would like to tell my readers about yourself or your business that I didn’t ask you?  I used a major name brand mineral makeup for over five years before trying Mineralicious!, and made the switch immediately!  Not only is my switch much friendlier to my wallet, but my skin tone and texture is noticeably improved and my makeup just looks better now!

Amy, thanks for taking the time to do this interview! I can say first hand how great the Mineralicious! products are, and the owner of the business is an awesome lady too! ~Shannon~

Tuesday’s WAHM of the Day

Posted in Local People & Places, WAHM/D of the Day tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 2:11 pm by tntwmom

Hi, what’s your name? Kimberly Sebeck, CLD, CCCE

What type of business do you own? I am a doula, which is a professional birth partner. I also am a postpartum professional and assist families in the postpartun phase of having a baby. I also am a childbirth educator, so I teach prepared chilbirth classes, along with new parenting classes, breastfeeding classes and more. Much of my job is spent being a source of support and information for pregnant women until their “big day”.

In what city & state is this business located? Knoxville, TN, but I do travel to local areas.

What type of services do you offer?
The services I offer are classes, one-on-one support during the labor and birth process, comfort measures, and postpartum services such as newborn care, breastfeeding support and advice, nutritional advice, light cooking, errand running, etc. I do also make some handmade baby items such as burp cloths, baby blankets and comfort items such as rice socks. Also I support local handmade businesses by other moms making these items. For moms not wanting a traditional baby shower, I also offer “birth blessings”, with alternative ideas such as henna belly painting and belly casts.

What does ‘doula’ mean?
It’s a word from the Greek, meaning “Mother’s Helper” or “Mother’s Servant”.

What makes your business and/or your products different than your competitors?

One thing that I offer as opposed to other doulas in the area is overnight postpartum care. I will come to your home to help a new mom and family get as much rest as possible. I am also highly trained in postpartum depressions scenarios and moms on bed rest. For my childbirth classes, I offer private OR group classes. For moms on bedrest, I can even bring my class to them. After attending over 100 births, I have encountered many different situations and I keep myself up-to-date on countinuing education. I have a whole “bag of tricks” to make birth a wonderful experience!

What inspired you to start your own business? After the birth of my own daughter, I realize that as much as family and friends care, sometimes you just need someone who is there 100% to take care of YOU. I had already served as  an “unofficial” doula to many of my friends and decided to make it official by taking my training and getting certified. Pregnancy and birth is simply my passion. I feel it is a special time to be cherished and honored.

How do you manage your schedule around your children?

Well, I do a lot of my work at night when the rest of the household is sleeping, and that includes when a woman goes into labor! The hours after school and before bedtime are sort of our sacred family time and I make sure to leave a love note for my daughter if I’m not going to be back in the morning and her stepdad is taking her to school.

How long have you been in business?
This is my 11th year!

Are there any new products coming soon that we can get a sneak peek of?
I do have some new workshops coming up, ones designed to help the postpartum family and also families that are blended families.

What is your web site link?
www.myspace.com/knoxvilledoula

Anything special you would like to tell my readers about yourself or your business that I didn’t ask you?
Having a doula at birth reduces the risk of a C-section by up to 50%, the need for pain medications by up to 50%, and shortens first time labors by a good 25%. If you would like to read more information about doulas than what I have given here, please go to www.cappa.net or www.dona.org.

Kim, thank you so much for the interview! I know you are very passionate about your job, and that you’re an awesome person! Thanks for taking the time to interview for my blog 🙂

Cheapest weekly stay in Sweetwater

Posted in Local People & Places tagged , , , , , , , at 9:15 am by tntwmom

Since my dad is coming to visit for a week, I’ve called all the hotels/motels in Sweetwater. The cheapest weekly rate I found was the Economy Inn in Sweetwater.

The guy who has answered the phone all three times I’ve called has always been very polite & friendly. He answered all my questions promptly.

The weekly rate he quoted me was $185, including tax. This is not a five star hotel, but from what I’ve seen in driving by and the pictures on their web site, the Economy Inn is a decent, affordable place to stay if you’re coming to town. Other hotels in town are upwards and over $300 a week, if they offer a weekly rate (not all rent by the week).

They offer smoking & non-smoking rooms, and they are located very close to Burger King, McDonald’s & American House of Pancakes right off I-75 exit 60 in Sweetwater, TN.

You can visit the Economy Inn’s web site ~~>HERE<~~

$403 Utility Bill….

Posted in A day in the life of me tagged , , , , , , , , , at 6:03 pm by tntwmom

Well, I marched my self to Douglas Cherokee this morning seeking assistance with the utility bill that we can’t pay.

“We’re out of money, try The Good Sheppard”. So I marched myself to them. They don’t help with Sweetwater Utilities, only Fort Loudon utilities. Great, I thought.

So I come back to Sweetwater to see if SAM’s (Sweetwater Area Ministries) can help with the bill. They will give $100 of help to a family once a year. They only go over applications on the 15th and then decide who gets help. That didn’t help right now though, as the bill is due tomorrow and it would probably be cut off by the 15th.

I came home and called anyone and everyone I could looking for help. No luck, at all. Everyone told me to call Douglas Cherokee. Apparently they’re the only place here that would be able to help me.

So, I blasted to everyone on my Yahoo Messenger list about my problems, asking for prayers that we could get this taken care of. I won’t ask them for help. There are so many work at home mom scammers that will take trusting people’s money and not care. That’s not me.

I put my truck on Craigslist for sale. Robert told me not to, but I can’t get it registered… so what good is it to me?? I doubt anyone will call about it since it doesn’t have a title… but I can try anyway, the light bill HAS to get paid, somehow!

I was talking about pawning the title to one of our vehicles… just to pay the bill.

Robert left and picked the boys up from school. I took Dakota in my room and we did his homework in no time. (Good job son!)

So, as I sat here whining to my good online friend Beth…. Robert brings me a little yellow piece of paper.

HE PAID THE LIGHT BILL! “OMG, how did you pay that?!?!?!?!?!” He says “with a credit card”.

Holy cow. I’m glad he paid it, but a credit card?? Oh well, at least it’s paid.

I told Robert that as long as we have electricity and food, we’ll be ok. It’s not like they can take the house from us (no money owed on it, Robert and his brother and sister own it).

Credit card companies can’t take anything, they’ll just call all day everyday asking for money that we don’t have, so oh well… sorry.

We own the vehicles, no one can come get them from us.

So, I’m not sure what the future holds for us… but at least we will have electricity for another month! YAY!
